When I see little kids
Playing and whatnot
Laughing and whatnot
Exploring and whatnot
I think about me
As a little kid
Playing and whatnot
Laughing and whatnot
Exploring and whatnot
It seemed like yesterday
Me & Ronnie Stamper
Stealing Winstons
From his mothers room
And trudging into the woods
To have a smoke
And shit
And piss
Through a high tree toilet
Into the creek
It seemed like only yesterday
Throwing darts at the poster
Of Jesus that hung
On the back of his mothers door
Hitting Jesus in the heart or forehead
With a dart
Yielded 100 points
It seemed like only yesterday
I was a cub scout
And Terry Lacefields mom and dad
Were den mother and scout leader
It was only yesterday
My sisters and my brother
Little Darryl aka Homer aka Dan
With our cousins
At my grandparents house
Listening to Everly Brothers records
That my grandmother bought
It was only yesterday
My dad picking me up
From the Alice Cooper concert
At the Cincinnati Gardens
I can't believe he found me in that crowd
It was only yesterday
My mother blew me a kiss
And I waved her goodbye
As the medic wheeled her away
To the ambulance
And I had no idea
Not a clue
Totally oblivious
That she was going away
To die
Before my very eyes
Mothers live forever
Fathers rest in peace
It WAS only yesterday
These little kids will eventually
Come to realize
That it was only yesterday
Playing and whatnot
Laughing and whatnot
Exploring and whatnot
I think about me
As a little kid
Playing and whatnot
Laughing and whatnot
Exploring and whatnot
It seemed like yesterday
